blackened rose zine

a one-issue zine featuring the work of 10 other artists and writers – ‘florence’, ‘lily’, ‘freya’, ‘margaux’, ‘joseph coyle’, ‘boz’, ‘loz’, ‘luke’, ‘dp hunter’, and ‘bethan’ – based in the dyfi valley and beyond. Entries ranged from paintings, prose, poetry, illustrations, collage, essays, comics, in English and Welsh languages. The Blackened Rose grew from one of numerous visitations with Professor Becky Taylor, and began with the following image seen outside her house ~ ~

                           

At 10pm, or soon after, on Midsummer’s Night, stepping on paving stones from a front door across a front garden gave a curious sight: the roses of the front garden had become so dark that you could almost not see them, but humming were the bees that danced on their petals. It seemed surpising that the bees were still dancing at this hour. The blackened roses set a scene of action. The bees were busy in their beautiful work, in a world of so much injustice and uncertainty.
